Dayana Mendoza of Venezuela has been crowned Miss Universe 2008. Brunette Mendoza, 22, is a professional model and an interior designer who claims to love photography.
She was awarded her crown at the Crown Convention Center (Diamond Bay Resort) in Vietnam’s city of Nha Trang
Australia’s entrant, 21-year-old Laura Dundovic of Sydney, made it through to the top 10, but could not make the final five. The top five finalists this year were: 4th runner up Elisa Najera - Miss Mexico, 3rd runner up Vera Krasova - Miss Russia, 2nd runner up Marianne Cruz - Miss Dominican Republic, first runner up Taliana Vargas - Miss Colombia, and Miss Universe 2008 was Dayana Mendoza - Miss Venezuela.
The pageant, which started with 80 contestants, was held in the seaside town of Nha Trang, Vietnam today.
The Sydney psychology student survived the swimwear round of 15, and made it through the evening gown section.
She was hoping to emulate Jennifer Hawkins, who won the crown in 2004.
Dayana Sabrina Mendoza Moncada (born June 1, 1986 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a model and Miss Venezuela 2007 and the newly crowned Miss Universe 2008. She is 22 years old. Her measurements are 33.5-23-35. She has brown hair and gorgeous green eyes. She stands 5′9.5″.
On 2001 Mendoza signed with Elite Model Management and modeled in Italy, France, United States, England, Greece, Spain, Germany, Mexico and Peru for Versace, Roberto Cavalli and other fashion designers. She speaks Spanish, English and Italian.
